Simon didn’t seem as happy recently; even eleven-year-old Athena could see it. All he wanted to do after work was watch Steel Samurai, work on his case files, or sleep; he never played with her anymore. Athena was determined to fix this, but first she had to figure out how.
Mommy wasn’t as happy before she met Mommy Aura. She thought to herself. Maybe Simon would be happier if he got a boyfriend.
Simon, to put it simply, was terrible when it came to attracting guys. He always seemed to get nervous and say the wrong thing, and when it came to romance, he was terrible at reading signals. He excelled in court but came up lacking in matters of the heart.
First she’d have to find the perfect guy. Simon deserved someone that was caring, and passionate; not just any jerk could have him, and she knew the perfect guy. His name was Bobby Fulbright; he was a detective, and had worked closely with Simon in the past. She didn’t know too much about him, but during the few times she’d met him, he seemed odd, but nice. The perfect guy for Simon.
First she’d have to get them together. But it couldn’t be through work, as they’d be too busy to notice each other. Mommy and Mommy Aura had met through work, but they didn’t start dating until they’d met at a restaurant for a friendly meeting that turned into date, and now, years later, they were engaged.
But there was no way she could get Simon and Bobby to meet up at a restaurant together, but maybe the park. With the flowers, the gazebo, and the benches, it looked like something out of those romance movies Mommy liked to watch.
Maybe I could get Simon to take me and Taka to the park this Sunday on his day off. She thought. And then I could go and sneak a note in Bobby’s mailbox telling him that somebody wants to meet him in the park; just like in the movies.
Surprisingly, her crazy plan actually worked. She and Simon sat on a picnic blanket under a tree, watching Taka fly around, when Bobby walked by, looking around for whoever sent him the note. He smiled when he spotted them.
“Hello, prosecutor Blackquill. It’s a nice day isn’t it?”
Simon was about to reply, but Athena beat him to the punch. “You should be Simon’s boyfriend, Mr. Fulbright. He’s really smart, and nice, and you’d be perfect for him. He’s been sad lately, and I think you two would be happy together.”
Simon blushed in embarrassment and looked like he wanted to disappear, but Bobby kept on smiling.
“Actually, I wouldn’t mind going out of a few drinks with you some time.” Said Bobby. “Someone sent me a note saying that they wanted to meet me here, but there’s nobody else around. Was it maybe you who sent it?”
Simon shook his head, still too embarrassed to speak.
“Oh, well I guess maybe someone wanted us to meet.” Bobby replied. “I guess we’ll find out someday.”
As they began making plans, Athena couldn’t help be smile. Operation get Simon a boyfriend was a success.
A few weeks later, when Simon and Bobby were officially a couple, they brought her and Taka to that very same park for another picnic. As Athena watched them cuddle up together from a slight distance, she felt someone tap her on the shoulder, and turned to see Mommy Aura standing behind her.
“So, you this, didn’t you?”
Athena gave a nod, thinking she was about to be grounded.
But Mommy Aura just smiled. “Well, thank god; the weeb was getting to be such a depressing pain in the ass.”
